Truly Canadian…

Maple trees and Muskoka chairs are synonymous with Canada just like Roots clothing, beaver tails, maple syrup, moose crossings and poutine. It did not take me long after immigrating to this beautiful country to find out that most Canadians are proud of these iconic staples.

Galatians 6:2 - Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

Waterfront sights…

A short walk from home brings us to a place of beauty, nature and joy – the waterfront!!! A typical summer evening at the waterfront would vary depending on the day of the week and the weather. The scene dramatically changes from a quiet humdrum weekday to a vibrant, bustling-with-excitement, colourful weekend with families, adults, kids walking about and enjoying their time at the lake, some with food, fishing rods or a Tim’s coffee in their hands. The local Cafe band sings and plays music to the demands of the patrons. The eatery spills out onto the side walk and people stop by to take in the music. A group of bikers hang out together and barrel in and out of the main street with loud rut-tut exhaust sounds. The lake is dotted with jet skis, boats and paddle boaters. The pier is filled with people, some fish, some watch their children play in the water, young couples walk by hand in hand, some walk by in a determined finish-my-exercise kinda walk, older people sit on the benches and enjoy the sunshine and weather. A walk to the lake and back can overwhelm your memory with enough images, aromas and sounds to last a lifetime. Try walking…it always does a world of good to the body, soul and mind.

The world right now…

With the recent news and spate of events, I have begun to wonder when will we have some normalcy to our lives. Has mankind lost its favour in God’s eyes? I often think about this when I lie awake some nights wondering if there will ever be an end to this madness. For those of us who have parents, families, spouses, children and loved ones in other parts of the world, that we can’t travel to see, can’t hug or visit with – I know the feeling can bring on sadness, helplessness and sometimes distraught. But the comforting thought is that our loving Father is beside all of us every step of the way. He has us in the palm of his hands. He knows our every thought and will be there with us all until the end. I said a prayer for all of you today.

Remembering the beauty of summer…

Summer has just passed and I can’t wait for it to come back again. I miss the beauty of summer, the fresh air, the warm summer sun, the humidity, the colours of nature and the sounds associated with summer. Autumn is here and Winter will be here soon, but I am certain Summer will come back. Until then I promise to enjoy the other seasons till my favourite season comes around.

Psalm 104:19 - He made the moon to mark the seasons; the sun knows its time for setting.

Summer garden containers…

These photos of garden containers were taken in summer when parks and residents and patios vie to put out well decorated and inviting outdoor garden containers. My favourite are those that have a mix of colours and textures, heights and assortment of plants, with some trailing plants that create a whimsical look. The containers themselves can enhance the whole theme of the arrangement, creating a modern, rustic or minimalist look.

Isaiah 68:4 - But now, O Lord, You are our Father, We are the clay, and You our potter; And all of us are the work of Your hand.
